5 Hidden Gems In The South To Visit And Explore

Admittedly, when I think of tourist destinations, the CALABARZON region isn't the first place to come to mind. However as I've continued to research relaxing getaways that aren't too far, locations within the said area never fails to pop up, making me feel that this region is totally underrated. More than just the picturesque Tagaytay, the fun filled beaches of Batangas, popular religious spots in Quezon province, as well as artistic havens in the Rizal province, the South is filled with tourist destinations that are often overlooked and are ripe for exploring once the pandemic settles down. Here are five tourist attractions in the CALABARZON region that have caught my attention and I am considering visiting during my next holiday break!

Matang Tubig Cold Springs, Silang, Cavite

During these scorching summer days, can you imagine something more relaxing than lounging in a Cold Spring pool with an icy drink in your hand? The Matang Tubig Cold Springs provides you that stress relief you so seek, without having to travel too far out of the metro. Situated within the areas of Canlubang and Calamba, Laguna, the resort utilizes the pristine water source hailing from Silang, Cavite to provide their guests a refreshing escape from reality.

Puto Latik Festival, Biñan, Laguna

Our very own roster of "Kakanin" dishes is one of the highlights of the Filipino cuisine, and the Puto Latik Festival of Biñan, Laguna is one of the few festivals that pay homage to it. The first Festival was held in 2011, and ever since, it has been a yearly tradition starting every First week of February.  The Festival pays tribute to the Puto Biñan, which is the crown jewel of the city's native delicacies.
The Puto Latik festival is also the day the denizens of Biñan commemorate the founding of Maglalatik, a traditional folk dance which traces its origins to Biñan.
You will be dazzled by the energetic dance numbers and various cultural activities that are performed, but what undoubtedly draws people from all walks of life to the festivities, is the opportunity to try a wide range of delicacies from some of the best purveyors that Biñan has to offer. Even residents of exclusive villages such as Verdana Homes in Barangay Mamplasan are lucky enough to witness the beloved city’s festivities.

Fortune Island, Nasugbu, Batangas

Can you imagine feeling like you're in middle of the stunning ruins of the Parthenon in one moment, and suddenly you're at a sandy tropical beach, the next? That's what you'll find when you visit Fortune Island, in Nasugbu. A result of the construction of what was expected to be a high end tourist attraction ceasing operations, the structures left in its wake gives tourists a glimpse of the glorious ruins of Ancient Greece. Numerous beach resorts are around the island, which can help you complete your itinerary of fun activities such as swimming, snorkelling and cliff diving.

Masungi Georeserve, Rizal Province

For those that love the exhilaration of exploring the great outdoors, you'll be happy to know that you don't need to go too far to get your adrenalin rush. The Rizal Province is the home to the Masungi Geo-reserve, which is known for its stunning limestock Rock formations. Take a tour through the geo-park, which can lead you to the scenic mountainscapes or the lush forest of the area.
