IPPUDO RAMEN'S NEW GYOKAI TONKOTSU AND MORE!

I dropped by Ippudo in SM Fashion Hall last week with some of my buddies from The KTG to check out the newest addition to their Menu. I was rather taken aback because it has only been a few months since I was last there, and there are already so many additions to the menu that I missed out on! So what better time to do a little catching up than now, especially since they released a brand new signature Ramen dish, the Gyokai Tonkotsu!

PORK + RAMEN LOVE AT BUTAMARU

On the rare occasions that I find myself at the South, I can't help but be on the look out for some great places to eat. During my short weekend food trip down south a couple of weeks back, My buddy Richard of Tales From the Tummy, invited me to try yet another Ramen place that has sprouted, this time located at Westgate, Alabang.

Being the certified carnivore that I am, I was actually hoping for more of a meat based restaurant, instead of a bowl of hot noodle soup. I told Richard about my apprehensions.

"I'm not sure I'm in the mood for Ramen. I'm looking for pork-", I said.

"The name of the restaurant is 'Butamaru'", Richard interrupted. "'Buta' is Japanese for "Pig". The dishes are Pork based.", he replied.

"So, what time do we meet?"

NOMAMA: RAMEN LIKE NO OTHER!

I'd like to know how Chef Him Uy de Baron's mind works. His understanding of the intricacies of various flavors is nothing short of otherworldly. His masterful use of ingredients that I often had never heard of before (well, mostly the vegetables at least), makes every visit to his restaurant, Nomama, a new gastronomic adventure.
Nomama has made itself for it's artisanal Ramen dishes, but believe me, Chef Him's culinary skills go far beyond delicious hot bowls of noodle soup.

And since they opened a new branch in Capitol Commons a few months back which is so much nearer to me, I dropped by with some of my food blogger friends to get a firsthand taste of the new Nomama experience!

WRONG RAMEN'S RIGHT MOVE: THE ARAKAWA ABURA SOBA

The metro has gone crazy over Ramen.. And I've got to admit, despite being a late bloomer in the game, I've become a fan of it. I admire how Wrong Ramen has carved out a niche for itself for boldly concocting the most ridiculous recipes that would drive the most loyal ramen purist up the wazoo.

This time, they've collaborated with Ramen heavyweight, Hanamaruken, to come up with a Ramen dish that still has the insanity that Wrong Ramen is known for, but with the authentic techniques that Hanamaruken is known for.

Ladies and gentlemen, start your engines, because you have until September 15, to try the Arakawa Abura Soba.

HANAMARUKEN RAMEN: THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS

You could say that I'm genuinely a happy guy. I went through some tough times last year, but you would never know it from reading my blog, which I felt should be dedicated to positive things in life.

Obviously, apart from my family, something that makes me happy is food. And becoming a food blogger has given me the opportunity to be surrounded by delicious food on a consistent basis.

Is there any question why I'm so happy?

A few months back, I had the opportunity to dine at a restaurant that offered me Happiness in a bowl. My constant pursuit of happiness made it impossible for me to decline such an invitation.

A few days later, Rina and I, joined by my other food blogger friends, made our way to Trinoma, to find our happiness at Hanamaruken Ramen.

RAMEN NAGI OPENS AT SM AURA!

I'm not gonna lie to you, I got into the Ramen game rather late. I'm really more of a meat and potatoes kind of guy, so as my foodie friends were talking about the richness of a ramen's broth, the firmness of their noodles and the like, I was wondering why people were going nuts over something that you can buy at the grocery by the pack.

Naturally, as my food blogging career went on, so did my education in the art of Ramen, courtesy of my other foodie friends.  A few months ago, I was invited to visit a taste test of the newest Ramen place that would be arriving in our shores. I had the pleasure of tasting some Ramen dishes that were completely out of the ordinary, and anxiously awaited the day that their doors would finally open.

As December came, I got the call I had be waiting for.

Rejoice, Ramen Lovers! Ramen Nagi has opened its doors in SM Aura.

FINALLY!!! I have finally been to Nomama Ramen in Quezon City!! I can't believe I had to wait for Nomama's Second year anniversary before I managed to visit. But no matter.. I visited at the perfect time. Because for their second year anniversary, Nomama and I have teamed up for a little something special for you all.

            How special, you ask?

How does a free bowl of Ramen, everyday, for the next 60 days sound?

I don't know about you, but that sounds pretty darn special to me!

THE RAMEN CRAZE CONTINUES AT IKKORYU FUKUOKA RAMEN! - RINAZ

I’m sorry but I can never memorize the name of this place hehehe. But as hard it is for me to remember the name (sorry all my memory brain cells was sucked out of me during labor hehe), the interior is quite unforgettable with it’s tall wood fences with black Japanese characters written all over them. I believe they were poems. Or was it a story? Anyway it was quite a unique ambiance.

A MITSUYADO SEI-MEN GIVEAWAY :)

It's not everyday that someone gets photobombed by one of their "blogger idols"

For someone who keeps saying, "I'm not too big on Japanese Food", it's funny that I'm writing about the fifth Japanese restaurant that I've visited in the first four months of 2013. I can't explain it, but there just seems to be something about that cuisine that serendipitously finds me sitting in front of a plate or a bowl, and enjoying a dish that I could have sworn I wouldn't care for just days earlier.

But this time it was different. This time, I was a man on a mission. I had a couple of opportunities in the past to visit Mitsuyado Sei-men along Jupiter Street in Makati, but scheduling conflicts would constantly keep us apart.

Finally, I had my date with destiny just before Holy Week, when Rina and I got together with some friends to finally try some of their new dishes. But I had my eyes set on the one dish that many have been talking about.. The Double Cheese Tsukemen.

WRONG RAMEN: BREAKING ALL THE RAMEN RULES

There are quite a few restaurants that I've been to, that I feel that were made with me specifically in mind. This, of course, is totally not true. However, in a world where new "healthy" concept restaurants seem to be popping up out of nowhere, one can understand my elation whenever I find a place that is unafraid to add a little something greasy or fatty into their dishes. And when I say "Greasy or Fatty", I mean Bacon.

Wrong Ramen is one of those places that captured my complete attention. With Ramen Houses being the new craze, and one claiming to be more authentic than the other, it's refreshing to see a Ramen Restaurant that takes the timeless Japanese ramen recipe, and dares to give it the proverbial finger.

Wrong Ramen knows that their way isn't the way ramen is supposed to be. And the funny part? that's exactly how they like it.

        And you know what?

        So do I.

NO HOLDS BARRED AT RAMEN BAR!

I really only got into the Ramen game a couple of years ago, when my friend Paolo Dy brought me to the controversial Ramen Mecca, Ukokkei. Prior to that, I never really appreciated Ramen. To me, I couldn't tell it apart from Noodle soup. It turns out, I was missing out on a pretty amazing dish for so long.

During a visit to Robinsons Magnolia, I noticed that Ramen Bar had opened a new branch there. I had seen Ramen Bar in Eastwood, but never got a chance to try it. One weekend when Rina, Baby Rain and I found ourselves in Quezon City, we decided to go give it a try.
