I have a confession to make. When it comes to desserts, I'm not a fan of Pinoy offerings. Outside of Turon and Leche Flan (which is technically Spanish), I find myself taking a pass if native treats, such as Bibingka and Puto are the choices.
Don't get me wrong, I think they're delicious enough to eat, but it's easier to resist than more indulgent desserts, such as chocolate cakes and cream pastries.
Well, apparently I was wrong.
I recently tried a Cassava Cake that was just so irresistible, I swear I could have finished one whole by myself in one sitting.
The Big Cheese Cassava Cake from Mango Grill.
Mango Grill is a restaurant in Sorsogon City that is known for their delicious comfort food. However, their best selling product is their "Big Cheese Cassava Cake", which has become a pasalubong staple when visiting Sorsogon, but is also beloved by the locals since 1994.
Though Mango Grill is based in Sorsogon, the demand for their Big Cheese Cassava Cake has been so high, that they found a way to cater to their manila based customers who are demanding their Big Cheese fix. While Mango Grill's Metro Manila Branch is still in the works, The Big Cheese Cassava Cake is now available thru delivery via Lalamove PH. The 8 inch cake is available for P380, and trust me, it's worth every single cent.
The price is actually rather reasonable when you consider that the fact that Mango Grill uses the freshest ingredients from local farms in Sorsogon, never sacrificing the quality of their products, including only 100% Cassava in their cakes, and at the same time, upholding their pledge to support the local farmers who are the lifeblood of their beautiful city.
This is undoubtedly THE BEST CASSAVA CAKE I have had the pleasure of trying, and I wouldn't hesitate to order from Mango Grill again. Looking forward to their Metro Manila branch!
