RAIN AND THE DIN TAI FUNG PHILIPPINES KIDDIE CLUB

Perhaps the most famous Xiao Long Bao restaurant in the world, is Din Tai Fung. In fact in can be argued that it is the most famous restaurant to come from Taiwan, and despite the numerous food choices available, no trip to Taipei is complete without visiting Din Tai Fung.

This rings true even for a foodie such as myself, because I found myself at Taipei late last year, and despite there being two branches of Din Tai Fung in Metro Manila, my friends and I found it mandatory to visit the branch near Yong Kang Street.

Rina and I got word of a new promo that Din Tai Fung Philippines came out with that was perfect for Rain, so we thought we would take her to the branch at Bonifacio Square so she could get her fill of her favorite Shao Mai and Xia Long Bao, and earn prizes at the same time with her Din Tai Fung Kiddie Club Passport!

HOTEL JEN MANILA: WHERE YOU CAN LEAVE BORING BEHIND

Without a doubt, the Philippines is still a third world country, but you'd never know it from the wide range of internationally renowned luxury hotels scattered around the metropolis. One such hotel often gets lost in the shuffle of the high profiles names is Hotel Jen. Being part of the Shangri-la group, one of the biggest names in hospitality world wide, it's clear to see why Hotel Jen can easily be overshadowed by its higher profile sister companies, but when you cut to the heart of it, when it comes to service and accomodations, Hotel Jen Manila can actually stand side by side with the best in the country today!

MAMA LOU'S: THE LOVE SPREADS TO AYALA MALLS AT THE 30TH!

One of my favorite success stories, is that of Mama Lou's. From a humble eatery running out of a family household, to one of the most popular Italian restaurant chains in the country today. I was quite relieved that they opened a branch at UP Town Center, since I'm rarely down South. But my friends at Mama Lou's ended up doing me one better. Just a couple of months ago, Mama Lou's opened yet another branch, this time just a few minutes away from my office, at the recently opened Ayala Malls at the 30th in Pasig!

FIRESIDE IGNITING BONIFACIO HIGH STREET

I absolutely love the work of Chef Chiloy Santos, the man behind institutions such as Tender Bob's, Kettle and Fireside. I am a fan of American Cuisine, and Chef Chiloy admittedly draws a lot of his inspiration from his travels around the United States. When his latest concept, "Fireside by Kettle" opened at SM Mega Fashion Hall a couple of years ago, I made sure to be there on the first week that it opened with my family to celebrate my birthday. Since then, I've been back a few more times, and each time I've visited, the food has remained consistent, with the food getting better and better each time.

The success of the Megamall branch has led to an inevitable expansion, this time at Bonifacio High Street.

GOING GRINGO: AYALA MALLS AT THE 30TH

It's not often a restaurant explodes into the scene, and becomes a force to be reckoned with in a little over a year. But that's exactly what Gringo did. After opening their first branch at SM North Edsa in 2016, Gringo now has eight branches scattered across Metro Manila, giving foodie lovers a glimpse of those South Western/Latin flavors that is made with passion and love!

THE ANSWER: ANY ANY AT HOLE IN THE WALL

I'm ashamed to admit that I haven't tried Your Local yet (I'm rarely ever in Makati, but still, no excuses 😓), but Chef Nicco's reputation from there was he was indeed a chef on the rise. His work with Hey Handsome was the stamp of reaffirmation that the hype around this talented chef was legitimate.

It took a few bites from his dishes at Hey Handsome for me to quickly realize that this is one incredibly talented Chef. You see, being a picky eater and all makes me rather adverse to trying ingredients that I'm not familiar with.

Any Any is a new addition to the Hole In The Wall food paradise, and Chef Nicco takes Malaysia staples Roti and Nasi Lemak, and elevates them to all new heights!

TOKYO TOKYO'S SRIRACHA RAMEN: RAMEN GETS LIT!

The Sriracha craze continues at Tokyo Tokyo!

Hot off the success of their successful Sriracha Donburi, Tokyo Tokyo turns the heat up once again, this time in the form of their all new Sriracha Beef Ramen!

RAISE YOUR GLASS TO TOAST: ASIAN KITCHEN AT AYALA MALLS THE 30TH

With my sister, Raqs!

When I first heard about the new restaurant called, "Toast", I immediately assumed it was a breakfast restaurant. Here I was, ready for some bacon and eggs, but instead I was left spellbound by the creative Asian dishes that broke the norm of tradition.

LOVE WEEKENDZZZ EVEN MORE WITH MCDONALD'S DELIVERY!

Although you see me going out to eat a lot, one thing you should know about me is that I'm really a homebody. I don't need to go out to have fun and enjoy my time with my family and friends. I'm perfectly fine staying home, and inviting them over to go on a Netflix Marathon or watch a big event on TV and the like.

And usually, instead of going through the hassle of preparing the food, Rina always find it much more convenient to have our food delivered. The funny thing is, whenever Rina asks where I want food delivered from, the default answer is usually McDelivery!

FROM PALETTE TO PALATE: RAMON ANTONIO AT MARCO POLO ORTIGAS

I first heard of Chef Ramon Antonio a few years ago when he developed the menu of the Da.u.de Tea Lounge, where he managed to infused different kinds of teas into several dishes, including one of the best burgers I've ever tried in my life.

Knowing his extensive experience and skill, I was thrilled to see that the latest food festival of Marco Polo, dubbed "Palette to Palate", featured Chef Ramon taking the reins of the kitchen of this prestigious hotel. Having prepared for Royalty and several Celebrities in the past, I knew this was no skin off Chef Ramon's back, but I knew this was an opportunity to see the maestro in action once again.

And once again, I left the restaurant completely in awe of this man's talent.

PICKIEST VLOG: BAD BIRD AT SM MEGA FASHION HALL

A great percentage of us Pinoys would never turn down a platter of delicious fried chicken. That's why when Bad Bird opened in Hole in The Wall a couple of years ago, it immediately became a smashing success.

Bad Bird became the breakout success of Hole in The Way, becoming the first purveyor from the famed food collective to branch out into its own brick and mortar store, with it's first stand alone outlet at SM Mega Fashion Hall!

EXPERIENCE THE PICNIC AT MAKATI SHANGRI-LA

One of the best meals I've had in my entire life happened at Makati Shangri-La, Manila, during "The Picnic", a rare event when the best restaurants of the hotel merge together to form one awesome buffet spread!

The good news? The Picnic is happening once again on August 20, 2017!

NADAI FUJISOBA SM MEGAMALL: SOBA SO GOOD!

With the Ramen craze alive and well in the Philippines, Soba, another famous Japanese noodle soup has flown under the radar to slowly emerge as a delicious alternative. And where in Manila can you find some of the best Soba Noodles?

With  Nadai Fujisoba branches quickly spreading around the metro like wildfire, it seems like the answer is clear.

SHAKE THOSE BLUES AWAY AT SHAKEAWAY

(Too Hot? Hot Damn! 😂)

I don't know if I've ever mentioned this before, but I don't drink coffee. So it's safe to say that I havent gotten bitten by the Frappuccino bug that everyone seems to go crazy over (Poor me, no planner every Christmas hehe). However, what I do love, is a good milkshake. So when the largest Milkshake bar in the world arrived in the Philippines, you can bet every cent you've got that I stood up and took notice!

Fortunately, the stars aligned for me when Shakeaway opened their second branch at Bonifacio Uptown Mall, and I happened to be around the neighborhood with some foodie buddies of mine!

THE HALAL GUYS HOT WINGS: AYALA MALLS AT THE 30TH

Since opening in the last quarter of 2015, the Halal Guys has taken the Philippines by storm. Who would have thought that a small food cart business in New York would would be welcomed with such open arms in our country? But it just goes to show that no matter where you're from, delicious food will always find a home with Filipinos!

Since their opening, The Halal Guys Philippines has continued to innovate their menu, coming up with dishes that stay true to the Halal practice, while maintaining its appeal to the local palate.

A great example is the new Halal Guys Hot Wings, a fiery new dish that will tantalize your taste buds! And the awesome news? The Halal Guys is offering a discount when you order via Food Panda!

HOLIDAY INN MAKATI: BURGER BAR WEEKENDS AT FLAVORS!

Its no secret that I am a burger fanatic. I love experimenting with different toppings, trying to find the combination that best suits my palate.

What if I told you there was a place where you could enjoy an unlimited amount of burgers that you customized to your own heart's desire? And not only that, you get a full on buffet that includes a wide array of American Classic Dishes such as BBQ Ribs, Ribeye Roast, and a vast selection of desserts to choose from?

BE HEARD! THE CHOICE 2017

Every month, every week, and almost every day it seems, there's a new restaurant opening in Metro Manila. There are a lot of great new dining choices, side by side with the perennials, the classics that we grew up with. As food bloggers, writers, and members of the F&B industry, we're always very curious about the crowd favorites.

The popular vote, if you will. So, Our Awesome Planet, the Blogger Collective known as the KTG (Kain Tulog Gang) and World Food Expo (WOFEX) have partnered to conduct the People's Choice for their Favorite Food, Restaurants, Bars, and more …. or simply, "The Choice".

You can participate and answer the survey here:
https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/TheChoice2017

We conducted an intense first round of voting among ourselves, and our resulting Finalists have made us very pleased: we feel it's a very diverse and fair representation of all our favorites from all over the Philippines. The categories are very broad, as they should be in a democratic vote.

However, we'd like to emphasize that this is NOT a "Best of..." list. Taste, after all, is subjective. This is a vote for YOUR FAVORITES. These are not the Oscars of our ever-growing foodie community.|

Instead, we'd like "The Choice" to be the Golden Globes:  a bit more irreverent, surely less formal, and yes, it ought to be greatly biased. After all, YOU will be voting for your favorites, this is YOUR CHOICE!!!

-----

The Choice 2017 Voting is open for 3 weeks starting on July 3, Monday and ends on July 23, 2017, Sunday.
The Choice Restaurant Awards will be on August 5, Saturday at the SMX Convention Center at the MoA during the World Food Expo (WOFEX) 2017!

-----

The Survey Parameters:

1. For the Favorite New Restaurant category, our coverage period includes restaurants that opened between June 1, 2016 to May 31, 2017.
2. There are 60 questions in this survey and answering this survey should take only around 10-15 minutes. It is best to give a definitive answer on each question and feel free to skip if you can't decide.
3. All answers are treated confidential and final once you click on the submit button.
One survey response for one person only.
4. Please give us your name and email address for our random validation of the survey responses.
5. We've added your Favorite Hotel categories as part of this year's The Choice 2017 survey!

The KTG are:

The KTG is a group of friends who all just happen to be some of the top food bloggers in the Philippines; every one of their individual blogs ranks among the highest ranking and most influential online publications dedicated to food, entertainment, and travel.

The KTG is composed of some of the more senior food bloggers in the country, including Richie Zamora of "The Pickiest Eater in the World', and Jill Tan of 'The Food Scout”.

Representing the younger generation are "Food in the Bag", "The Hungry Kat", and "Nines vs. Food". And from the world of showbiz, Mr. Chuckie Dreyfus, a foodie who's also a respected tech blogger.

The KTG's objectives are not limited to discovering the best restaurants, however. While it's affectionately called the "Kain Tulog Gang", it's officially participated in relief efforts in Tacloban and Iloilo after Yolanda; and in Metro Manila, this "Kapatiran sa Tulong at Ginhawa" is on a constant mission to contribute in providing joy and comfort to the less fortunate.

TOKYO TOKYO’S NEWEST HIT: CHICKEN-NOMIYAKI

Just like most of us, I am constantly on the look out for meals that boast an insane portion size, but at an affordable price, and incredible taste. Tokyo Tokyo recently unveiled a new addition to their menu that I felt was everything I was looking for in a satisfying meal.

Big Portion? Check.
Affordable Price? Check.
Delicious? CHECK!

Once again, the creative minds of Tokyo Tokyo got their gears running to create another treat for big eaters like me that are looking for a great deal on meals with big servings.. Behold, Tokyo Tokyo’s Chicken-Nomiyaki!

RINA'S MOTHER’S DAY SURPRISE FROM ALASKA MILK!

Although we’ve never had much problems getting to drink her milk (Thankfully she’s not as “Picky” as her father), that never stopped Rina from finding simple ways to make “Milk Time” fun for Rain. Rina’s philosophy is to always associate Rain’s routine of drinking a glass of milk with happy moments, so it becomes something that Rain always looks forward to. Whether it be through “Story TIme” or a small “Surprise”, Rina and Rain’s milk time has become a great bonding Mother and Daughter session.

And thankfully, the delicious taste of Alaska Powdered Milk made it a whole lot easier for us, because the sight of her big glass of milk never fails to make her eyes light up!

Last Mother’s Day, our friends at Alaska sent over a surprise for Rina and Rain which fit perfectly for their daily Milk Time Activities!

PICKIEST VLOG: SAGA STEAK AND SAKE PAIRING AT THE FIREPLACE

I'm so excited to tell you all about one of the best meals I've had in my entire life.

If you love steak, then let me tell you this: You MUST try SAGA Steak. I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to try this amazing cut of beef from the Saga prefecture in Japan twice in my life, and the second time was even better than the first

HEAVEN ON EARTH.. LIO ECO TOURISM ESTATE: CASA KALAW AND SKIPPER CHARTERS

        Blogging.

It's a tough job, but someone's got to do it.

One day we're fed a ridiculous amount of food, prepared by an acclaimed chef, another day, we're flown to one of the most breath taking places in the country for a few days of R & R.

      WTF, right?

I'm kidding! Blogging has taken me to different parts of the country, but this was the first time that I was able to go to El Nido, Palawan, where we were invited to explore Lio Eco-Tourism Estate, as well as to witness the natural splendor of what El Nido has to offer.

F1 HOTEL MANILA'S LUZVIMINDA 2017!

Whenever June comes around, an event that i'm always looking forward to is F1 Hotel Manila's LuzViMinda Food Festival. The ingenuious concept is, the hotel invites three renowned chefs to represent the different regions of the country, through their gastronomic creations. Now, LuzViMinda is on its fifth year, and they've got a perfect track record in my book.

The 2016 incarnation featured some of the top female chefs of the country, but in 2017, the boys are back in town! Chefs Mikel Zaguirre, Dennis Uy and Kalel Chan all took up the challenge of featuring the best dishes from around the country, all into one amazing buffet spread.

This ranks up there with the very best LuzViMinda festivals ever!

MARCO POLO CUCINA: FESTA ITALIANA

Marco Polo always finds ways to keep its flagship restaurant, Cucina, on the top of its game, by conceptualizing various international food festivals, and inviting some of the most acclaimed Chefs to elevate the dining experiences of their guests.

Their latest food festival, raises the bar once again. Invoking the bold flavors of Italy, Marco Polo has recently launched their Festa Italiana festival, which is spearheaded by Award Winning Chef, Andrea Delzanno, a native of Italy who now calls Marco Polo Hong Kong his home.

I was fortunate to have personally witnessed the amazing spread that Chef Andrea prepared for his guests, exemplifying the excellence that the Marco Polo name carries throughout the world.

THE PICKIEST VLOG: PARADISE FOUND AT PARADISE DYNASTY

I was introduced to Chinese cuisine at a very young age, and instantly fell in love with it. That love affair has only grown stronger as the years passed by, especially when I discover innovative restaurants that know how to push the envelope in creativity, while maintaining the high standards that the traditional Chinese Chefs adhere to.

Paradise Dynasty is one such restaurant. Known for having a wide range of flavors to their Xiao Long Bao (EIGHT to be exact), Paradise Dynasty also has an extensive menu that delves into Chinese Cuisine, ranging from the classics to new concoctions.

PICKIEST EATER VLOG: A Japanese Feast at IZAKAYA SENSU

Given that I've never had a disappointing experience with The Raintree Group of Restaurants,  I was excited to try their new Japanese restaurant, Izakaya Sensu, which is located at Net Park at Bonifacio Global City.

Izakaya Sensu's menu features a wide range of Classic Japanese dishes, as well as some items that were innovated to keep up with the times, without losing its sense of tradition.

THE PICKIEST EATER VLOG: BANH NAM OPENS AT PODIUM MALL

My friend Steph and I have been trying to find time to meet up, but schedules seem to always get in our way. One day, I was invited by What Mary Loves to the opening of the latest branch of Banh Nam at Podium Mall, so I asked Steph to come with me since I wasn't so sure if I'd be able to finish those veggie loaded Banh Mi's all by myself!

THE PICKIEST EATER VLOG: A WEEKEND AT ASCOTT BGC

Though I've been to Ascott Serviced Residences in Makati before, I had yet to set foot in their property at Bonifacio Global City. Fortunately, my family and I were invited for a relaxing staycation, and much like the Makati branch, I was left in awe by how stunning the place looked. From the Hotel lobby, to the rooms, to the function areas and restaurants, intricate detail was put into making Ascott BGC Manila a world class serviced residences establishment.

THE 14TH BITE: MCDONALD'S SPICY BUFFALO STYLE CHICKEN MCDO

Before I start, I want to get this out in the open. Although I'm flattered that people suggested it, I'm not an endorser of McDonald's. I'm just what you would call a "Super Fan". I believe you need to have a certain level of popularity for McDonald's to get you as an endorser, and I don't think i'm anywhere near the required vicinity.

Apparently, the video i made for the Spicy Buffalo Chicken McDo turned out to be quite controversial, because as it turns out, customers either hated it or loved it. And those that hated it, seemed to do so with a fiery passion that would make the spiciness of the chicken seem like honey by comparison.

Someone sent me a message saying "Maasim and parang ligyan lang ng Hot Sauce (Tabasco)!" (Translation: "It's sour and tastes like they just added Tabasco to it". Umm.. I'm no chef but I think the sauce is made with Vinegar and.. wait for it.. Tabasco. Perhaps from the picture, they were expecting Hickory BBQ or something like that?

There were those who ordered and simply said, "I didn't like it, I wouldn't order it again". And there were those who hurled curses at me... over a piece of chicken 😂 (Talk about serious issues 😂).

Those who enjoyed it, seemed to know what to expect from the flavor profile of Buffalo sauce. The acid and heat agreed with their palate.

SUMMER HEATS UP WITH TOKYO TOKYO’S SRIRACHA DON!

Sriracha has continued its unstoppable march to global prominence, as more and more restaurants are discovering ways to innovate their dishes with this fiery sauce. Always taking the lead when it comes to bold dishes that don’t conform to the norm, Tokyo Tokyo’s latest addition to their Premium Donburi line will undoubtedly fire up your taste buds.. The New Sriracha Donburi!

THE PICKIEST EATER VLOG: FOWLBREAD'S NEW MENU!

I've actually been back to FowlBread quite a few times since my first visit. Every time I go, I never fail to get a Chicken Sandwich and the Garlic Noodles. I'm a creature of habit, so I'm pretty much set in my ways, so those two items are perfectly fine for me.

Then FowlBread had to ruin everything by adding MORE awesome stuff in their menu, including All Day Breakfast entrees, making the choice much more difficult! Who could say no to Bacon and Runny Eggs?!

PICKIEST EATER VLOG: A WEEKEND AT SHANGRI-LA THE FORT

During the last two weeks of March, I had worked Thirteen days straight (luckily I have no complaints because I love my job), and was looking for a little weekend relaxation. Thankfully, our friends at Shangri-la offered my family and I a weekend getaway that I could not pass up. They offered me the opportunity of experiencing a stay at the famed Shangri-la Residences at The Fort, and use of the facilities, such as Adventure Zone, The Spa at Kerry Sports, and dining at some of their restaurants.

I don't know anyone in their right mind that would say no to that!

BEEFY'S NEW YORK GRILL: A BITE OF THE BIG APPLE AT LAGUNA!

I rarely find myself down South, which I know is sad because there are tons of places to discover from BF Homes, all the way down to Tagaytay.. Further even! However a restaurant in Laguna opened late last year, which piqued my curiousity. A quick glance at Beefy's New York Grill Facebook page showed insane looking burgers and dawgs, that was more than enough to get my taste buds excited!

So one fine Sunday, some of my foodie friends and I hopped on to Food in the Bag's car and made our (surprisingly) smooth trek to Solenad 3 in Nuvali, Laguna!

GARDENIA POCKET SANDWICHES: THE IDEAL SNACK FOR ALL AGES!

I’m going to let you in on a little trivia about me. Gardenia sliced bread is the only sliced bread that I buy in the supermarket. And that goes for their Hamburger Buns and Hotdog buns as well. I’m a lover of bread, so I’ve tried most of the brands that are available in the supermarket, and for me, nothing comes close to that of Gardenia.

My daughter Rain inherited my love for bread, so it’s not uncommon for her to wake me up early in the morning to say, “Daddy, I’m hungry”. As tired as I am, the needs of my child come first, so I have to do a zombie walk down to the kitchen, and sloppily make a peanut butter sandwich for her. Of course, whenever Rina sees the mess I made in her kitchen, you can say that she is always less than pleased.

Thankfully, the geniuses behind Gardenia came up with a product that makes lives easier for parents.. The Gardenia Pocket Sandwich!

THE TOKYO TOKYO WAGYU BURGER REVOLUTION IS ON!

Tokyo Tokyo is once again leading the East meets West movement , as the country’s number one Japanese Fast Food chain unveiled to it’s loyal customers its Wagyu Burger Revolution!

In case you weren’t aware, I am a huge fan of Burgers. I’m always on the look out for a great burger, and when I heard that Tokyo Tokyo was embarking on a Wagyu Burger campaign, I was absolutely ecstatic. Tokyo Tokyo’s kitchen has proven time and time again to be very innovative without losing the sense of the classic dishes, and that’s exactly what it did with their new line of Burgers!

QUICK BITES AT THE GROVE: BACKYARD KITCHEN + BREW

Forgot to take a pic with Chef Ed, so I'm posting a pic of me and his "Representative" instead 😂

I first got a taste of Chef Ed Bugia's Backyard Kitchen and Brew when it opened its first branch at UP Town Center a couple of years back. I was immediately blown away with Chef Ed's creative take on comfort dishes, that doesn't stray too far away from the classic, but takes your taste buds to realms you've never been to before.

Of course, since then, Backyard has exploded into a legitimate restaurant chain, with four branches scattered across Metro Manila, include one not too far away from my place.. The Grove By Rockwell!

10 QUESTIONS WITH MARTIN YAN

How often do you get the opportunity to ask a legend questions that you've always wanted to ask? I'm no Chef, but I am a lover of food, and when I was asked if I would be interested in sending questions to Chef Martin Yan of the Asian Food Channel TV Show "Yan Can Cook", I jumped on the chance!

Though it wouldn't be a face to face interview, I was still deeply honored to be given the opportunity to have a global icon take time to answer some questions that I had specifically prepared for them.

QUICK BITES AT THE GROVE: SUNRISE BUCKETS

With the lovely lady behind DiscoverMNL!

One of the first restaurants that sprouted in The Grove, was Sunrise Buckets. It's quite uncanny that even before the towering residential complexes of the area rose, Sunrise Buckets was already there, and continues to be one of the area's most popular establishments.

But then again, once you get a taste of their delicious food and get your fill of the fun atmosphere, it becomes a no brainer. Whther it's with your friends of family, Sunrise Buckets is one of the best places in the metro to hang out at!

QUICK BITE AT THE GROVE: OM INDIAN KITCHEN

Once you get talking to him, it's easy to forget that DJ, Host, and TV Personality Sam Y.G. is of Indian descent. He speaks Tagalog better than I do, and his sense of humor is unmistakably Pinoy. Having lived in our country for so long, even Sam himself will attest that he feel right at home here in the Philippines. However, once he begins talking about the cuisine from his homeland, you can see Sam beam with pride, especially when he tells you the stories of how his mother would prepare the food for the family.

That warmth and care of Mrs. Gogna is the crux of what Om Indian Kitchen is all about. A family from India, bringing not just phenomenal Indian dishes to the Philippines, but with the love, happiness and good vibes that comes with it.

That's all part of the Om Indian Kitchen experience.

SAY YASS TO CHOCO MUCHO, WITH YASSI PRESSMAN!

As odd as it sounds, I only truly "discovered" Choco Mucho last year, but since then I've been hooked. It was always one of those products that I would constantly see in the grocery but for some reason would simply overlook.

Now, with one of the country's paramount beauties as the face of Choco Mucho,  those days of being overlooked are being over.

Yassi Pressman is now the newest Angel of Choco Mucho!

QUICK BITE AT THE GROVE: ASAKUSA HOME OF TEMPURA

Have you noticed how much Filipinos love tempura? You go to a buffet, and what's the longest Queue? The Steak and carving section? I've got to admit, it's pretty long but manageable. Lechon? Yes, but I noticed when there's no more skin, the line significantly lessens.

But the Tempura station.. Pinoys will WAIT for a platter of those bad boys, no matter how long it takes.

I can't blame them though, because I'm one of those guys that wait in line for a few pieces of deep fried deliciousness.. and the funny thing is, I don't even eat Prawns!

As I'm sure I've discussed before, my daughter Rain is the ultimate Tempura fanatic. Which is why I'm so excited to take her to my latest discovery that opened at The Grove by Rockwell..

        Asakusa: Home of Tempura!

QUICK BITE AT THE GROVE: PI BREAKFAST AND PIES

Being a denizen of the City of Pasig, I'm always looking for places within the area where I can grab a bite. One of my go-to places is The Grove by Rockwell, which has one of my favorite Ramen places, Hanamaruken, and Sunrise Buckets.

For the longest time, these were the two restaurants that I would associate The Grove with, not realizing that over the past year, more and more restaurants have sprouted at their complex, making the place a virtual food lover's paradise.

I joined a few of my foodie friends for a day of exploring The Grove, and we started with one of my favorite restaurants, that opened a new branch there last year.. Pi: Breakfast and Pies!

A NEW BEGINNING AT SUMMER PALACE

Chinese Food is one of the things I rarely say no to. And as cliche as it sounds, Sweet and Sour Pork is one of my all time favorite dishes. And I discovered last year, that Summer Palace makes one of the best sweet and sour dishes in the land. Though they were undoubtedly in the upper echelon of Chinese restaurants in the Philippines, the look of the restaurant was admittedly rather dated, and was in dire need of sprucing up.

So late last year, after 22 years of operation, Summer Palace underwent a long overdue face lift, giving the famed restaurant a more modern look, without losing its original identity.

And the results were absolutely stunning.

AIRASIA FLIES TO TAIPEI & 8 THINGS TO DO WHEN YOU GET THERE!

It's not every day you get asked to be a witness to a historic occasion, and when you do, it would be silly to pass up the opportunity. That is exactly what the little voice in my head said to me when I was asked at the last minute if I was available to be part of the contingent of Filipino bloggers and media to join Air Asia's inaugural flight from Manila to Taipei.

Rina and  I had always wanted to go to Taiwan for a food trip, but our schedules never really permitted it. When I got the call from Air Asia asking if I would be interested in joining them, and finding out that getting a Visa for Taiwan would take me roughly around 15 MINUTES (You can apply for an exemption if you have a Visa from countries such as the USA), I knew I couldn't pass up this chance.

So on a whim, it was off to Taipei I went.. and as it turns out, Taiwan would be one of the most beautiful countries I've ever visited in my life!

ARLA POP UP AT SM AURA PREMIER: LET THE GOODNESS IN!

It was only 2016 that I first heard the name "Arla", not realizing that its products, including that of it's sister companies, have been a part of my life for quite some time. My cousin posted on his facebook page, a picture of a delicious piece of toast, smeared in cream cheese with a jar of "Arla" in the background, and raved about how delicious it was. After that I was rather intrigued. During my next trip to the Supermarket, I chanced about a small Jar of Arla, and was pleasantly surprised with how affordable it was, and decided to try it for myself.

The following day, I had the Arla toast I had seen in my cousin's picture, and was not disappointed, making a Jar of Arla Cheesy Spread a staple in our grocery list.

Which is why I excited when I found out that Arla had set up a Pop Up Station at SM Aura Premier, showcasing some of their delicious products, prepared as delicious combo meals that imbibe the clean type of eating Arla adheres to, within a budget friendly range!
